It was just past midday, and all the students were still milling around getting back into the school routine. Lunchtime had finished in the Great Hall, and students were spending their Saturday however they saw fit. The Ravenclaws had retreated to the inner depths of their common room or the library to study. Michael, didn’t believe in the hardcore study habits of those in Ravenclaw and so he was lurking around in the Entrance Hall, in a difficult debate about whether to take a walk around the lake, or visit the broomshed and go for a fly.
He liked the outdoors a lot more than the indoors, which placed him in a difficult position with the other Ravenclaws. Michael was always looking for an excuse to go outside, even during classes. He would even voluntarily be a test dummy for the Weasley twins new concoctions even if it meant being unconscious for seventy five percent of the day. At least he would avoid class.
It wasn’t as if Michael was slow or stupid. In fact Michael was an incredible success at school for someone who didn’t try so hard. He had the natural ability to do well, and so even with minimal amount of work he achieved good grades. He was a teacher’s nightmare. Gifted with the natural smarts, he didn’t listen in class. He would make jokes, laugh and crack onto any girl within a hundred metre radius of his desk.
The clock in the courtyard struck one and Michael groaned. He still hadn’t made up his mind on where to go. It looked like it was going to be another boring day, staying in the common room practicing spells he already knew off by heart. Unless he could find Ginny, or even some other girl who could keep his company for the meanwhile. It couldn’t be too hard. He wasn’t exactly unattractive, or unappealing. He settled on remaining in the Entrance Hall and waiting for Ginny to exit from the Gryffindor table. Surely if she wasn’t there, someone else would pass him, that could easily replace Ginny. It was a good plan, he thought.

That was when a semi tall figure was making her way down the hall in what looked like normal running cloths. Her hair was down, but pulled back slightly by a gray hair band. Her face was nicely fair and her eyes seemed youthful. She held a good stance as she walked down the corridor into the main part of the entrance hall that led to the doors that went outside. She was on her way for an afternoon jog or at least walk around the grounds. It was a nice day out and she wanted to enjoy it for what it was worth. She could almost smell, taste, and feel the freedom. All she had to do was reach the doors ahead of her.
Her mind raced as she thought of all the possibilities that could lay before her once she reached outside. Her strides towards the door were wide and full. There was going to be nothing to stop her. Nothing at all, but wait there was someone sitting bored and alone. No she couldn't stop, she couldn't let herself fall into the trap of being kind. Oh, but they looked like they could use some company. So she decided she had to go over to make sure that they were alright. It was just her way.
So walked briskly over to Michael and smiled as soon as she reached him. She couldn't remember some faces very well, and he was one of them. Though she thought she'd try anyway to be social. Well the best she thought she could anyway. "Hey, hows it going? You look like your bored. Is everything alright?" she asked. She looked at him kindly.

Michael smirked a little. He must have looked fairly stupid, sitting in the entrance hall, completely alone, with his hands behind his head and head to the ceiling. It was only fitting that a random but attractive girl had come up to him, probably feeling sorry for the poor boy sitting alone in the hall. He smiled at her, his smile slightly crooked to the left side. Girls usually swooned at such a sight, and he wanted to impress.
She was attractive in almost every single way. Everything about her exuded a beauty Michael knew almost nothing of. She was a catch, and boy did Michael know it. But she felt sorry for him, that much was obvious. Michael would have to change that.
"Hey hey mysterious stranger. Are you here to rescue you me from my boredom? I'm incredibly bored and all the Ravenclaws have gone up to study. Wanna help me get unbored?" he said, his face taking on what he thought was a cutesy puppy dog pout. He wasn't exactly known for his tact when it came to getting the girls, but it usually worked for him. Maybe because the girls felt sorry for him. Either way, it worked for him.

She looked at him with even more curiosity. She had to wonder if he knew that she was a staff member. Ah well either way she wanted to get outside. Even if it meant letting him think that she was a student. Well after all she was still pretty young for a teacher. And she was pretty new at it too. She hadn't been working at Hogwarts too long. Though she had to wonder why he didn't realize that she was a teacher. That did really boggle her. Well she supposed that it was the way she was dressed and all not many saw her in normal clothing. Her shirt was semi tight against her body, its light lavender color accenting her features, especially her hair. Her black jogging pants were well aired, but clung close to her waist area. her muscles that were well toned, were bare and showing. She wore matching cloth wristbands that were black. She stood their in a casual manner as she found out what was going on.
She put her hands on her hips and looked at him now with a half smile. She would have no problem toying with him if he thought that she was a student. What she could tell was that he was pulling the A typical things that a male teen would, which in most cases was flirting. She didn't mind guys flirting, but it was different coming from a student. Though somehow she found it a bit adorable that he was putting in such an effort on her. She just hoped that no one would come by and ruin her little fun. That would suck if it happened. She then let her hands drop off her hips and she then sat down next to him. She had to wonder what his idea of getting out of boredom really was. For some guys all it was, was taking a girl to a secret place and snogging them for a while. She had to wonder if that was his idea of getting out of boredom. She sure hoped it wasn't
As she looked at him she said with a smile, "How cute. Well I was just about to go for a nice jog or walk. If you would like you could come along with me and enjoy the fresh air. After all no one should have to be cooped up inside the school forever. I mean even I feel I need to get a breather every once in a while. So what do you think?" She was really trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was jut bored and need an excuse to just get outside. Yet she still wasn't sure.

Michael looked up at her expectantly, his eyes round and wide. How could she resist his wild-eyed innocence? She would never guess that all he really wanted was someone to snog behind an alcove somewhere. She wouldn't leave him alone now, not that he looked so pathetic sitting by his lonesome.
She asked to go for a jog and Michael cringed a little. He liked the outdoors and exercise and all that, but seriously, how thick was she? Surely she knew what unboring someone like Michael meant? But then again maybe she was just trying to be nice. She probably wasn't attracted to his boyish charm. Michael sighed a little tactlessly. Of course he'd go on the stupid jog, what else could he do? The great hall looked completely empty; Ginny had probably already left for her own Common Room.
"Sure I'll come for a jog. Although, I'm not really dressed for it, but you're right. I need some fresh air" he said gesturing to his jeans. He smiled as he got up from his seat, smiling playfully. Maybe if he could get her to trust him a little more, the snogging would still happen at the end. Surely she wouldn't be able to resist. He had just agreed to a jog. The most innocent of activities. She wouldn't doubt a thing. The smooth operator was back in business.

"That's quite alright I don't mind walking instead. I just teld to wear my jogging clothing just in case I intend to change my mind on things. So yeah no big if you just want to walk around the grounds instead. I am neither perturbed either way." she said warmly. She looked at the boy still with curiosity. She had to wonder still if he was up to something, and was just biding his time with her. Ah well she finally decided to make her way to the door that let out and away to the schools grounds. As she began to exit she looked at the boy to see if he was coming or not. She didn't want to seem like she was impatient or something, which she wasn't. She just was excited that it was a really decent day out. She could actually feel the warmth coming into the entrance hall in small gusts of wind. Granted the wind wasn't too strong, but was strong enough for it to be notice on any thought. She let it stream across her.
"Well hopefully your coming cause I am heading on my way out now. So..um...yeah..." she stated. She re looked out the doors and almost wanted to whimper pitifully at the fact that what awaited her out there was nice warm sunlight. She almost couldn't contain herself from just running out there without him. But she was a decent girl. She wasn't rude or obnoxious, so with that she waited. She let her mind wander while she waited. She figured while she was out she would walk along the shore of the lake and maybe toss a few pebbles in while she was at it. That would be fun at least she hoped. Alanya could hear birds still making noises in the distance. They were just as happy and excited as she was. Now all she had to do was work on getting the boys spirits up. That was going to be the most interesting part of the task at hand. That was for sure.

Michael looked at her as she exited the doorway, surely she wouldn't go too far, and he could stand to wait for Ginny just a little while longer. She wouldn't mind too much, but he wouldn't wait for too long. She seemed to have an air of impatience about her. The decision was a tough one, and he would have looked quite comical, a boy in the Entrance Hall looking from the Great Hall to the doors.
He eventually gave up, and sighed. Of course Ginny would choose the Gryffindors over him. Where was the choice? Well Michael could play at that game too. Mysterious hot girl would fill in quite nicely. A little snog on the side, nothing Ginny would mind. She was probably off buttering Potter anyway.
When he exited the Entrance Hall, she had already disappeared to a place near the lake's shore. Michael quickly caught up with her, and grinned half-heartedly. He wasn't in the mood to be all flirty having just been rejected. "You can't expect you escape from me that easily"
He began to walk alongside her, kicking the pebbles as he saw fit. A nice breeze rolled through his disarray of black hair, and he felt exhilarated. Perfect weather for flying. He turned to his company and gave her a slightly odd look, his lips pursed. She was so attractive, why hadn't he ever seen her before? "So..." he said breaking the silence "Who do I owe the pleasure of being my company?"

"Alanya is the name." she said. Man this boy must not really recogize her as one of the staff. Now that was sort of hilarious. She was in the company of a boy that had no idea that she was much older than him. Though she never had given out her first name to students. Most knew her as Professor Carter. She gave the boy a smile over it though. She could help giving one. In all honestly she almost felt like she wanted to bust out laughing. However she contained herself when she saw the semi depressed look on the boys face. She debated whether to ask about it or not. It took her a moment to think it all over. Yet in the end result she figured that it wouldn't hurt to find out. "It really is a beautiful day...though, is there something troubling you at all? You seem a bit out of it. I mean I don't want to seem like I'm overbearing about it, I just am concerned that's all. It's all up to you of what you want to talk about whether it be the above mentioned or other. I really do enjoy the company though."
Heavens did she feel uneasy. Though she couldn't quite figure out why that was. Well maybe a part of it had to do with the fact that she wasn't being a teacher right at the moment. She was just being Alanya. There weren't any need for formalities here. She kicked at a loose rock as they walked along. She watched as it skipped along the ground. It then disappeared some distance away. She wasn't too sure what to think right at that moment. What were boys like his age, she wasn't quite sure. But she figured that she should figure it out a little. That way she would feel to much like any idiot around the students especially the boys. That was always the hardest part. Most of the time to her girls were pretty easy to read, whereas guys on the other hand were not. Though she tried to understand. Oh she really did try. After she had kicked the stone she put her hands in her pan

Michael grimaced a little bit as he kicked pebbles further into the lake, and then his expression softened. Alanya was such a pretty name, oddly familiar somehow but he had no recollection of ever meeting her in any of his classes. She looked slightly older, maybe sixth or seventh year, that would explain it. He grinned a little bit, quite the bit happier than before. "Hey Alanya, I'm Michael..." he chuckled.
He contemplated telling her all about Ginny, he really did. It was like Alanya was giving of a friendship vibe and Michael, for once, didn't feel the usual compelling desire to snog her behind a bush. Oh sure he wanted to, but with her it felt friendship was a lot more comfortable. His face contorted a little bit as he tried to decide what to say. He settled on a half-truth. "Friends... they all seem to be into different things than I am. We barely hang out anymore. I'm alone a lot of the time. I wouldn't mind, if I had someone to come fly, or run or do something with... but well, you know Ravenclaw" he said with a huge sigh, and a slight smile in her direction.
He gave out more information then he really wanted to, but it seemed like his intuition was acting of it's own accord. He felt like he could confide in Alanya, if no one else. And that was strange, looking back on his past experiences with women.

Alanya listened to what he had to say. It didn't take to long for him to feel sorry for him however though. She gave him a half smile. Trying her best to make him feel better about himself. She knew she wasn't the best at making people feel better, but she always loved to severly try her best to. Once she was done giving him a half smile and then looked briefly to the heavens above and then looked back straight forward again. She knew what it was like to feel like the outcast, alone and unwanted. Felling like being the only one who seems to still hold some sanity in there life. It didn't take to much to figure out that it seemed that, that was what he felt too. Like he really did need someone to get to know on a better level. It just seemed most his age were interested in more different ventures. Though she supposed that, that was the way things were in the world. Friends come and go, but the memories live eternally.
She looked back again to him and then said gently, "Well, people do ted to come and go a lot in our lives. But I am guessing you'd like to have someone that can seem to relate to you and the way you act, feel, and think. That does enjoy the same adventures and such. I mean I know that I would if I were you. Most girls, well they tend to just have this funny tendency to, when they get to a certain age of course, be...well...more as I feel mushingly over romantic. They become cheap romance novel knock offs, feeling that the best they can do is go place kissy face in some corner and then later have to make themselves feel guilty by watching some soap opera on T.V. while eating ice cream and blubbering the eyes out over some relationship issued couple. And then they wish that there lives could sometimes be like those soaps, yet once they are they absolutely hate it and wonder why they ever wished it in the first place. That's why a gal like me hangs more with men. I think what I am getting at is that you just need to find the group that now fits you. Whether it be male or yes maybe even female. Some guys like more female company than male. And vixa versa. Though you are the only one who knows which right now you'd prefer to be hanging with. Though for me as long as they don't act prep like or valley girl like then most people are pretty decent in my books. But you shouldn't let your absent friends get you down. And yet sorry about my chattering, I just have a few things that I have as some pet peeves"
She then stopped when she realized she might have been chatting too much. She closed her eyes briefly over it and then gave a sigh. "Am I rambling too much? Cause if I am just let me know. Or if there is something else you'd like to chat about let me know."
