Michael laughed as he exited the great hall, a book tucked neatly under his arm and an apple in hand. It was only the beginning of the year, and already the teachers had piled on the homework; even the smartest of ravenclaws were having difficulty staying on top of things. They could only wonder how the rest of the houses were getting along.
Michael however was cruising through, his natural smarts being enough to ensure he passed the year. Why should he have to try as hard as the others? He smiled a crooked smile, before biting his apple and heading over to his favorite tree. He always liked to study outdoors; it always seemed to add a bit of adventure into a seemingly boring task.
He found his way to the tree only to find Hermione Granger already in his spot. She was also reading, the dreaded Defence Against the Dark Arts text that everyone had complained about. Michael pulled aside her and sat down, taking another bite from his apple. “Hey Granger, enjoying that?” he said nodding his head toward the book in her hands, and biting his apple yet again.

Michael took another bite of his apple as he waited for Hermione. She was one of those people who would probably enjoy the Defence Against the Dark Arts book, simply because it was a book, and it came to his utter shock when she displayed her distaste for the thing. His jaw fell slack slightly in shock, which he closed immediately after at an attempt at a recovery.
“So I’ve heard” he said with a slightly crooked smile. She had shifted over slightly and Michael decided that she was moving aside for him to sit there. He had probably been standing around awkwardly or something like that. Michael crinkled his nose at the thought. Michael Corner, awkward? Not in a million years.
He sat down next to her and showed her his own book; the History of Magic text that had been long neglected in the bottom of his trunk. For years he had survived on pure instinct, now in his fifth year it was time to buckle down and study. “History of Magic; quite the read I hear” he grinned, hoping she found him funny. He didn’t want her to think he was embarrassing himself. Now that would be awkward.

she let out an audible gasp when she looked at the title of his book. a history of magic! "wow i'm not the only person who takes an interest in history of magic then". hermione was a little surprised a most people seemed to fall asleep - in her class anyway maybe being in a class full of very smart ravenclaw was different and what was more hermione might have known what it was like - not that she was complaining hermione loved being in gryffindor.
"actually despite what most people say it is quite interesting. there is some pretty gorey stuff in there - mainly about trolls fighting." she let out a small giggle and then began to read the next chapter but it was only getting worse and she would rather not read it at all.

The clever sarcasm was obviously lost on her. The subject was essentially the most boring thing in existence; even the study-hard and impeccably clever Ravenclaws thought the subject was nothing more than a bore fest. They were only passing because of their random listening in class. Hermione was most probably topping the class, if she actually read the text book.
Michael smiled a little nervously, before opting to tell her the truth. It wouldn’t fare too well if he lied to her, and was then found out. No, that way friendship or anything else would be out of the question for sure. “To be honest, I’m only reading this because I haven’t read it before and I really don’t want to be behind on class” he said meekly, his cheeks taking a slightly pink flush.
“Are you serious though? Troll fighting? Where? Oh man, you have got to help me find it” he said suddenly, more excited than ever. Even though Hermione was probably pretending, she certainly knew the way to a man’s heart. Michael was now genuinely intrigued by his History of Magic book and was thumbing his way through the first few pages, searching in vain for the troll fighting.

"a ravenclaw is worried about falling behind... wow" laughing slightly she then sighed as he asked about the troll fighting "is that all boys are interested in? fighting and qudditch? well there is a chapter on giant wars and one on troll fighting i think the troll chapter is three." she went back to reading her book but to be honest she would rather have read history of magic again and that was a little boring at some points although she would never admit it.

It looked half-pained, as he examined her reactions. She looked slightly disappointed with his infatuation with wars and fighting, but to be honest he was a guy. Fighting was a part of the job description. He grimaced, falling out of favour with Hermione wasn’t exactly the intended goal, and he needed to get back into her good books.
“Well, Hermione… We Ravenclaws fall behind too, especially in OWL year. I have to try and keep up now” he said with a grin. “I’m guessing you have already read the text then” He managed to say airily while thumbing the book to chapter three. And then an idea struck him, devious as it was… maybe Hermione wouldn’t mind helping him? It would entertain them both for the afternoon at the lake. Maybe Michael would end up getting something from it. He grinned again. “Do you mind helping me with the note-taking?” he said , looking up at her, battering his eyelashes in a comical fashion.

"yes of course!" anytime she could get her hands on a book it would be finished within a few days - unless it was this defence again the dark arts one but that wasn't exactly a proper book more of a hate one. "sure.." she said a little uncertainly. if he was in ravenclaw could he not take his own notes? that’s what being smart meant, maybe he was just trying to keep he conversation flowing. well hermione would help him either way but she wasn’t going to do it for him if that’s what he wanted. the sun was still hot against her back and younger students were messy about splashing water over each other at the other side of the bank

Post by Astrabella Jennifer Monroe on May 16, 2009 10:14:52 GMT 9.5
Astrabella for once wondered if she should go outside, since it was a lovely day outside. It wasn't long until Peeves showed up in the place that already had Lee Jordan, the Weasly twins, and a few troublesome first years from various houses. Astrabella's ink barrel rolled onto her essay, and her voice shrilled out, Peeves! Don't you have Umbridge to annoy?! Ugh, Professor McGonagal's gonna kill me! Astrabella picked up that essay only to find it had soaken through to her essay for DADA, which was getting off pretty easy considering what she did. Placing them down, and picking up her wand, she muttered, Terago, and siphoned off the ink, stuffing those papers and her books in bag, before giving a final glare to the bothersome first years, as if they had anything to do with it, and started to stalk off, before Filch repriminded her for using magic outside of class. Astrabella glared at him as well, despite the fact she was only a few inches shorter then him. Astrabella loathed being short, and wondered if she could try to see if her metamorphgi could help her grow a few extra inches.
Astrabella walked down into the lawn, and saw Michael and Hermione sitting together. Astrabella arched an eyebrow, and walked over to Michael and Hermione, recogonizing Michael from around her dorm and Hermione because she'd seen her around with the ever-so-famous Harry Potter. She sighed, and shifted her bag an inch on her hip, and pushed a few stray strands of bright red hair out of her eyes. She fixed her ponytail, and began walking over to the spot under the tree. Astrabella smiled, looking down for once at Hermione and Michael. She said, Hey, I hope I'm not intruding or anything on you two. I don't believe I've formally introduce myself, Granger. I'm Astrabella Monroe, but feel free to call me Astra, Bella, or AJ. Everyone else does. Oh, and hi, Corner. Doing okay? Astrabella stayed standing, waiting for them to ask her to sit down or something. Status? done! moving over she said: "why don't you sit down and join us?" it would only be polite to invite her to sit there with them but the girl seemed to know michael and hermione was sure if she didn't invite her then he would maybe she would distract him so she could read alone.
